It basically has an open-world map which leads to combat, combat and more combat. Hate to break it to you, but Elden Ring is pretty much a one-trick pony. Because, what, I'm not "gud enough" to prefer cinematic storytelling to "figure out what's happening"? Because I prefer finding interesting story moments to 100 variations on the same theme of "ambush - YOU DIED"? Like an old lady looking at flowers that remind her of an old flame, or a commander of a tribe who has to deal with their water supplies running out while facing leadership competition? I find that more interesting to cryptic shit leading to spooky things that backstab me. Now when you say Forbidden West is "neutered" or whatever else you people say about it (as opposed to just saying "I don't like it") - you're basically telling me that my taste is not valid. For me, Forbidden West is a much better game. But that doesn't mean that everybody wants that. Exploration always leads to something that will try to kill you.

I'm nowhere near close to finishing, but I've seen enough of the game to have an opinion. I've played around 30 hours of Elden Ring, killed a bunch of bosses, reached level 72. But what if some people like these things? I remember the comments, even from the very first Souls titles, ridiculing "detective modes" in games such as Witcher or Batman: Arkham Asylum, ridiculing what they consider "hand-holding", and now we're at the stage where every other open world design is wrong. Not because they really like these games, that's great! It's because they diminish other games because they don't fit what they consider "a proper way a game should be". There is a specific type of Souls fan that is really.
